Join us in Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 21-22, 2025, for the Journal of Mormon Polygamy Conference, a unique opportunity to dive deep into the history, impact, and ongoing discussions surrounding Mormon polygamy. This exciting two-day event will feature a remarkable roster of speakers where emerging voices and respected scholars in the field will come together to explore the complexities of Mormon polygamy through diverse academic and personal lenses. We are excited to welcome presenters who will challenge prevailing narratives and bring fresh, evidence-based perspectives that will further enrich the historical and academic conversation.
Throughout the conference, we’ll explore a broad range of themes—from Joseph Smith’s personal scribes and their role in shaping key doctrinal texts, to the evidences of polygamist beginnings in England. Presentations will also address the evolving monogamy affirmer movement, authorship of Section 132 in the Doctrine and Covenants, how polygamy has affected women both past and present, and we will even have some exciting debate on all things Emma Smith.
This year’s conference will be especially interactive, offering unique opportunities for deeper engagement. Attendees will have the chance to attend a workshop from the University of Utah’s Special Collections, viewing original documents and artifacts related to Mormon polygamy. In addition, small group lunches will give participants the opportunity to converse directly with speakers, fostering intimate discussions and personal connections. We also look forward to fostering new research opportunities and expanding the community of contributors to the Journal of Mormon Polygamy, as well as offering mentorship for those who wish to take their research further.
Whether you’re an academic, an independent researcher, or simply someone passionate about Mormon history, this conference offers a rare opportunity to engage with a vibrant community of scholars and enthusiasts. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this groundbreaking event and contribute to an ongoing, evolving dialogue about one of Mormonism’s most profound and complex historical legacies.
We look forward to welcoming you to Salt Lake City for this important gathering on March 21-22, 2025!
